A massive storm hit Jamaica and the Caribbean region

Hurricane Melissa, a heavy storm, hit a highland town in Jamaica. 49 people were reported dead so far from the whole Carribbean region and thousands displaced. The town has sustained the highest damage from the storm that has also hit Haiti and Cuba. The Island was thrashed by heavy winds and rain. Trees and power lines fell and streets flooded. The storm destroyed buildings from the ground and tore down ceilings of so many homes, leaving barely standing walls.

The storm also hit Cuba and hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated from their residents ahead of the storm. The US offered help to Cuba amidst their long standing animosity and six decades of sanctions
