Losang Jamcan, special envoy for Chinese President Xi Jinping, attended the inauguration of President Omar Guelleh in Djibouti City, the capital of Djibouti.
According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, Guelleh met with Losang Jamcan and also, on the same day, met with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
Conveying Xi’s warm congratulations and best wishes, the envoy noted that the strategic partnership between the two countries has deepened in recent years thanks to the strategic guidance of both leaders.
“China is willing to work with Djibouti to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, carry forward traditional friendship, expand practical cooperation, and further promote the development of China-Djibouti relations,” Losang Jamcan said.
For his part, Guelleh asked Losang Jamcan to convey his sincere greetings to Xi and thanked him for sending a special envoy to attend his inauguration ceremony.
“China has always been a trustworthy partner of Djibouti,” Guelleh said, adding that Djibouti is willing to further strengthen solidarity and cooperation with China, enhance friendly exchanges in various fields, maintain close coordination in international affairs, and promote bilateral relations to a new level.
Guelleh, who won his sixth term in office, leads the small East African country, which, despite its limited land size, holds major strategic significance because it lies at the gateway to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s most critical commercial shipping routes.
