The number of suspected Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to 1,028, the Health Ministry announced.
The ministry said the number increased from 906 a day earlier. According to a Reuters report, confirmed cases have reached 225.
The outbreak, which resurfaced in the DRC weeks ago, has claimed lives and spread to neighboring countries such as Uganda, where 7 confirmed cases have been reported. In a bid to contain the outbreak, Uganda has announced the closure of its border with Congo.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the strain a global health emergency last week, and is mounting efforts to limit its spread.
DR Congo, which has experienced the deadliest form of this strain in history, is currently the epicenter of the outbreak.
