Ethiopia to face Senegal in AFCON Qualifiers

The Ethiopian national team, also known as the Walias, will face Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

According to the Ethiopian Football Federation, the showdown is set to take place on September 29, 2026 at Bahir Dar Stadium in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.

For hosts Ethiopia, who have been absent from the AFCON finals for over a decade, the match will provide another opportunity to return to Africa’s biggest football stage.

However, Senegal will not be an easy team to beat. The West African side is one of the continent’s football giants, and has established itself as a major force in African football in recent years.
Senegal reached the 2025 AFCON final and initially defeated hosts Morocco 1–0 after extra time. However, in March 2026, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the result and awarded the title to Morocco following Senegal’s walk-off during the final.
