Uganda Airlines Signs Deal for 10 Boeing Aircraft in Major Fleet Expansion

Uganda Airlines has signed an agreement with U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing to acquire 10 new aircraft in a move aimed at expanding the carrier’s fleet and boosting the country’s aviation sector.

Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni, witnessed the signing ceremony on Wednesday between the state-owned airline and the U.S. planemaker.

The fleet expansion will include both passenger and cargo aircraft and is expected to enhance Uganda’s trade, tourism, and investment links while strengthening the country’s position as a regional aviation hub, according to a statement from Uganda’s State House posted on X.

Ugandan broadcaster Uganda Broadcasting Corporation reported that the agreement is valued at approximately 3.7 trillion Ugandan shillings ($984.64 million).

Uganda Airlines was revived by the government in 2019 after the original national carrier ceased operations in 2001. The airline currently operates regional and international routes across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia as part of Uganda’s strategy to improve connectivity, support tourism, and facilitate trade.
