12-Storey Building Under Construction Collapses in Nairobi

A 12-storey building under construction collapsed in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, on Friday, prompting a search-and-rescue operation amid reports that people may be trapped beneath the rubble, Reuters reported.

The Nairobi County governor’s office said in a statement that people may have been trapped following the collapse. The cause of the incident was not immediately clear.

The office of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the ground floor of the building, located in the Eastleigh neighbourhood, was occupied at the time of the collapse.

Video footage from Reuters showed a crowd gathering at the scene as an excavator moved rubble while rescuers worked in the area.
