Voting in Ethiopia’s 7th National General Election has begun across the country, except in the Tigray region.
The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), which is administering the election, and state-owned media outlets have been sharing images showing that voting began early this morning.
The Board announced that 54 million voters have registered for this round of the election, a figure significantly higher than that of the 6th National General Election.
The African Union Election Observation Mission, led by former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, has also reportedly begun monitoring the electoral process at polling stations in Addis Ababa.
The mission is expected to follow developments throughout the day.
