Brazil has received authorization to export 17 agricultural products, including beef, poultry, and pork, to Ethiopia, according to an official from Brazil’s agriculture ministry.
According a report by Reuters, the approval marks a significant expansion of trade ties between the two countries and opens a major new market for Brazilian exporters.
Ethiopia, with a population of approximately 130 million people, is considered one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in Africa. The development represents one of the first trade advances under Brazil’s newly appointed Agriculture Minister, André de Paula, who assumed office last week.
Brazil has been actively expanding its global agricultural footprint. Since the start of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s current term in 2023, the country has gained access to more than 500 new international markets for its agricultural products.
Analysts say the move could strengthen food supply chains in Ethiopia while boosting Brazil’s already robust agricultural export sector.
