Trump Unhurt After “Would-Be Assassin” Opens Fire at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Panic and chaos erupted at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday night, April 25, 2026, when a gunman opened fire near the main ballroom, forcing the immediate evacuation of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

The President was reported uninjured and was seen being whisked away by Secret Service agents with weapons drawn. Shortly after the incident, President Trump took to Truth Social to reassure the public, stating he was in “perfect condition” and praising law enforcement for their “brave and quick” response.

The event, held at the Washington Hilton, was intended to be a glitzy night of media and political networking—the first time President Trump had attended the gala during this term. However, the atmosphere shattered when five to eight gunshots rang out near the magnetometer screening area outside the main ballroom.

Hundreds of guests, including cabinet members, Hollywood celebrities, and prominent journalists, were forced to dive under tables and seek cover as security personnel swarmed the room.

Law enforcement has identified the apprehended individual as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California. He was reportedly armed with multiple guns and knives.

No deaths have been reported. One law enforcement official was struck in a bullet-resistant vest but is expected to be fine.

While the investigation is ongoing, President Trump referred to the suspect as a “sick person” and a “would-be assassin” during a late-night press briefing at the White House.

Third Major Threat Since 2024

This marks the third time in two years that President Trump has been the target of a high-profile security threat, following the 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a separate incident in Florida later that year.

FBI Director Kash Patel and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin joined the President during his post-incident briefing, confirming that federal charges will be filed against the suspect as early as Monday.

Global Reaction

World leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan’s Shehbaz Sharif, have expressed shock and relief that the First Couple is safe, condemning the violence as an attack on democratic values.

The White House has confirmed that despite the trauma of the evening, the President’s schedule remains unchanged. He is set to welcome King Charles III and Queen Camilla for their scheduled State Visit starting tomorrow, April 27.
