Turkish President Recip Teyyip Erdogan arrived in Addis Ababa Today, February 17, 2026, as Ethiopian and Turkey mark 100 years of formal diplomatic relations.
Prime Minister Abiy said in a Facebook post that he has welcomed president Erodogan at Bole International Airport in capital Addis Ababa.
The Prime Minister also said that the exchange of visits between the two countries reflects a strong partnership.
He further stated that the discussions he will have with Erdogan “will further deepen cooperation and strengthen the enduring bonds between our two ancient nations.”
The visit has also underscored the growing strategic partnership between the two countries, the Prime Minister’s Office stated in Facebook post.
This visit is Erdogan’s first in the county in more than 10 years. In his previous visit in 2015, Erdogan earned an honorary from Addis Ababa University.
Leveraging its diplomatic ties with both Somalia and Ethiopia, it has tried to soothe tensions emerged following the latter’s port agreement with breakaway Somaliland in January 2024.
Turkey has stepped up diplomatic and military ties with Somalia on scale never seen before. However, it has tried to keep its relations with both countries balanced.
