Maria Machado says she’ll hand over her Nobel Prize to Trump

Journalists questioned Trump about whether Machado would have to hand over the Nobel Prize to him if she sought Venezuela’s next leadership position following Maduro’s arrest . Trump said “he stopped several wars and avoided some from happening,” adding, “one must get a Nobel prize for every war they stop”.

While Maria is scheduled to speak with Trump next week, Trump has speculated that the prize handover could be part of the meeting.

Separately, Maduro’s long‑standing opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, has revealed she could be presenting her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to the US leader.

According to Reuter’s report, Machado had spoken that handing over the prize will be a gesture of gratitude by the Venezuelan public to Trump for ousting the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, who was arrested in the U.S. last week.

Trump, who has long expressed interest in winning the prize, openly said that he would be happy if Machado gave him the prize at a planned meeting in Washington next week.

However, the Norwegian Nobel Institute states that the Nobel Peace Prize could not be passed, shared, or refused.

The institute said the decision to award the Nobel Prize was final and permanent, citing Nobel Foundation law that does not allow appeals. It has also expressed it’s commitment to refrain from any comment on the actions and statements of awardees after they have received it, according to Reuters.
