Ethio Telecom, Djibouti Telecom and Sudatel Sign Deal to Build Cross-Border Fiber Corridor

Ethio Telecom, Djibouti Telecom, and Sudatel Group of Sudan have signed a tripartite strategic agreement to jointly develop a large-scale, cross-border multi-terabit optical fiber infrastructure, Ethio Telecom announced.
The agreement will link subsea cable landing stations in Djibouti to Sudan’s stations via Ethiopia, creating a secure overland fiber corridor connecting the Red Sea through the three countries.

The project is signed under the Horizon Fiber Initiative, aimed at connecting East Africa to global digital networks and supporting advanced digital services, including a multi-terabit fiber capacity, low-latency international connectivity, secure cross-border routes and High-reliability services enabling cloud computing, data centers, enterprise solutions, and cross-border digital trade.

The deal builds on existing cooperation among the three operators and elevates it to a more strategic level, reflecting the growing importance of secure alternative international communication routes for the region.
