Girma Assumes Double Role at Uganda Airlines

Girma Wake, an Ethiopian aviation veteran, has been appointed as a consultant and acting Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, according to the country’s Monitor newspaper.

The appointment was made by the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni.

Girma is a highly experienced aviation leader who served Ethiopian Airlines in various capacities for decades.

Quoting a statement from the presidential office, the Monitor reported that Girma was appointed to fill management gaps following the exit of Jenifer Bamuturaki. The President approved the appointment as both a consultant and acting CEO to tackle “current leadership and management weaknesses in Uganda Airlines”.

In a letter dated February 13, 2026, addressed to the Minister of Transport and Works, President Museveni greenlighted the appointment.
“I hereby direct that you go ahead and appoint Mr. Girma Wake as a consultant/advisor to assist in rectifying a number of management weaknesses in the airline. In addition, he is to serve as Acting CEO until we appoint a new CEO by July 2026”, the newspaper qouted him as saying.

The President also indicated that Girma will work closely with the board as he replaces the outgoing CEO, Jenifer Bamuturaki.
